Have you seen my $57.62?

Honesty causes some strange reactions in the Czech Republic. On Thursday, the bank teller gave me an additional $57.62 in Czech crowns during my transaction. I was exchanging over $1,000 from 5 currencies into Czech crowns and Mrs. C mistakenly checked off a 5 Euro note in the 50 Euro column. Neither of us noticed the mistake until later that night. While Mrs. C was reconciling her accounts for the day, she noticed the difference She quickly found the mistake, found my number, and called me.

On Friday, a very relieved Mrs. C welcomed me and apologized for the inconvenience. More than the apology, I was struck with her constant gratitude for my coming back. I have no doubt that she has experience with many people who would not have given the money back.

This small act of honesty led to a 10 minute conversation, a gift of candy for my children, and an offer of a favor at the bank if I ever needed it. These kinds of encounters always make me wonder what God is doing. I have learned that these encounters are often a sign that God is working in someone's heart. So I will add Mrs. C to my prayer list, intentionally visit her when I can, and see how the Lord leads. Would you add Mrs. C to your prayer list, as well?
